Stages of Rebellion

Jeremiah 5: 3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

Today we will meditate upon the stages of rebellion.

GOD hates rebellious people.

Stage 1. Ungrieving in nature

Genesis 4:9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

Here we can see that Cain was not grievous to his hate and bitterness towards his brother to the point that he killed him. He was ungrieving in nature.

Stage 2. Unwilling to receive correction.

Genesis 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

Here we can see that Ham was consumed by the curse but still he refused to receive correction.

Stage 3. Unwilling to Change

Genesis 14:16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

Here we can see that the Lot had been saved from a great destruction, but instead of returning to the Lord. He stayed in Sodom and made his face harder than rock and refused to return.

Which tree are you?

Ezekiel  17:24  And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

All the trees were created by Lord.

Genesis  1:11  And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

High tree
High tree denote proudness in life.

Deuteronomy  12:2  Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:

2 Kings  17:10  And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

2 Chronicles  28:4  He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

Jeremiah  3:6  The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

Low tree
Low tree signifies lowly spirit

Green tree

Firstborn Blessing

1 Chronicles  5:1  Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

Firstborn has a special place in blessing.

Here we find Reuben lost his blessing because of defilement.

In Bible we find many firstborn losing blessing.

1. Blessing lost due to profanity

Genesis  27:32  And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

Genesis 25:31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

Genesis 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and       drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Hebrews  12:16  Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

2. Blessing lost due to adultery

Lot's firstborn committed adultery with her father and brought curse on the entire generation.

Genesis  19:34  And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

Genesis  19:37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

Ezekiel  25:11  And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Zephaniah  2:9  Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

3. Blessing was hindered due to hasty decision.

Genesis  16:1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

Genesis  16:15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

Genesis 16:12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

4. Blessing lost due to wickedness

Genesis  38:7  And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

5. Blessing lost due to disobedience

Exodus  11:10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

Exodus  11:5  And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.

But there is a good news, because we can get the blessing of the firstborn of God Almighty.  We need to surrender and come to him.

Firstborn Blessing
Psalms  89:27  Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

Zechariah  12:10  And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Matthew  1:25  And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Luke  2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Matthew  28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

John  3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
