Exodus 22:6 If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
Praise the Lord!!
Today we will meditate upon kindling a fire. At first instance it appears very trivial, why would God put such a condition something that seems so obvious to any human eyes. But God is Lord who knows the end.
Why would we kindle the fire against someone? What do you mean by kindling a fire? Why is God so mindful about this issue?
Kindling a fire against your own brother is feeling jealous, envious about your brother. Inspite of being spiritually and worldly blessed and having talent. If one is still envious and bad mouth about others. Scripture says you are kindling a fire against your brother.
In old testament they would use the actual fire to burn out the field of the brother. In new testament we use the term fire to signify a very small but very significant portion of our body. That is our tongue.
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Let's find out some truth about this part of the body.
1. Tongue is a fire.
2. It has a world of iniquity.
3. It defiles the entire body.
4. It can take a person to hell.
5. It is unruly evil.
6. It is a deadly poison.
7. It is set on hell fire.
Now we understand why did the apostles receive the Holy Spirit as cloven tongues of fire.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
In old testament it was written that anyone who kindles a fire has to make a restitution. In new testament we also have to make restitution. You may say how??
Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Jesus said every idle word will be judged so saints, let's be careful and not kindle fire among ourselves. You may ask me brother how to speak with each other.
It is written, Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Let's worship the Lord not only in words but also in deeds.
God bless.
